The Decameron is set in 1348, during the time of the Black Death, the deadliest pandemic in human history. The story takes place in Florence, where a group of nobles retreats to a grand villa in the Italian countryside with their servants to escape the pestilence and enjoy a lavish holiday. However, as social norms break down, what begins as a wine-soaked celebration in the hills of Tuscany turns into a desperate struggle for survival.
